It is fair to say that there is
not a generally accepted definition for Social capital.
Some define it as the advantage created by a person's location in
a structure of relationships. Portes defines social capital as
"something of a cure-all" (Portes, 1998) for all
the problems afflicting communities and societies today. In the late
1990s, the concept became highly fashionable, with the World Bank
devoting a research program to it, and the concept achieving public
awareness through Robert Putnam's 2000 book, Bowling Alone. Questions we are considering
