Outsourcing
Blunders- Darwin Magazine: We've
been doing it for more than 25 years. Why are we still doing it wrong? It's
been nearly 25 years since the
first corporation had the bright idea of farming out part of its IT
department to somebody else. They called it time-sharing, and it was
supposed to cut costs dramatically. These days, the hot money-saver is
off-loading Internet-related functions to application service providers (ASPs) |

Turning
Lead Into Gold - by Peter
Bendor-Samuel
To survive in today's
Internet-driven marketplace, companies must focus on their core
competencies. To do this, they must divest themselves of important but
non-core processes (such as HR, finance and accounting, and data
processing), while simultaneously improving the quality of these services
and reducing their cost. Increasingly, companies of all types are turning
to outsourcing.b) |

The
new corporate structure -- unstructured - Business 2.0
Technology companies are increasingly
adopting a less rigid boundary between themselves and other members of the
value chain - sharing data, assets, even customers. With the introduction
of Web-based services and the willingness to outsource IT functions of
sensitive areas (e.g. data centers), companies are migrating their
technology assets and business processes beyond a centralized core. In
fact, one company might play several roles within a single supply chain.
Explains Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu in a recent study, “You have a
portfolio of relationships. Because you can have fast, cheap, intense,
continuous, and rich interaction with alliance partners, you can have
complex, ragged-edge boundaries.” |

The Most Important Link in Your Supply Chain
- The outsourcer is the most critical link in your supply chain......Outsourcing provides an alternative strategy that allows them to survive
the complexities inherent in technologies that are rapidly evolving. Major
projects can take up to two years to formulate and integrate, and
organizations can spend an enormous amount of money and other resources on something that will be out of date very soon.

Matching Supply to Demand - Five
Thoughts about IT Staffing – Darwin Magazine: Overall, I think
the number of jobs available probably isn’t too far
off as far as supply and demand, but the regional distribution is skewed.
There might be a shortage of one type of worker in a certain region and a
glut of that type of worker in another region, and it’s kind of matching
up supply and demand |

Tips
for getting the most from outsourcing - Tech Republic - Core
competencies vs. business functions
As a first step, you should identify your company’s core competencies
and the business functions an outsourcing company is better equipped to
handle, according to Lorrie Scardino, a Gartner
analyst.

Why
Outsourcing IT May be Smarter Than You Think by Brad Cohen.
I can't wait for my
child to grow up. Then someone else can mow the lawn every weekend.
If
you run a small business, you might be thinking of having
someone else do your dirty work as well. Especially when it.

Got:
With the potentially high
cost of a full-on ERP purchase, outsourcing is an alternative that can
save a lot of money. But, if you do find yourself negotiating an ERP
outsourcing deal, ASPOutsourcingCenter.com warns of two major pitfalls:
"First, outsourcing customers fail tounderstand the complexities of
dealing with a software licensor, an integrator, and an outsourcer in a
manner that will deliver accountability and protection. And second, from a
contractual point of view, customers fail to separate the licensing and
integration work from the
ongoing operational outsourcing work." Click
