For those not too familiar with how Europa, consider the following demographics subtleties, derived from the findings of IDC's Project Atlas, which surveyed 2,400 advanced internet users in Europe in 1999:
  • German citizens were four times more likely than the French to buy apparel over the internet.
  • Half the French citizens surveyed who conducted commerce over the Web had bought travel tickets in the past year.  A much higher percentage than in countries such as the Netherlands or Denmark.
  • Less than 10% of consumers buying on line in Spain are women, as compared to 40% in France and Norway.
