Benn Clatworthy on Monday, May 2nd at 7:00 pm in the McKinney Theatre.
Born in England in 1955, saxophonist Benn Clatworthy has been a
fixture in Los Angeles area clubs since 1980. He was originally
heavily influenced by late-’50s John Coltrane, but would soften his
tone and sometimes sound a little like Warne Marsh with touches of
Sonny Rollins. He debuted on record in 1990, with his Discovery
release Thanks Horace (which also features pianist Cecilia Coleman)
and, in 1995, released While My Lady Sleeps on his own label
(featuring Cedar Walton as a guest). What the critics say:
“Sublime…” --Jazz Times; “A master player” – L.A. Weekly;
“A truly majestic sound” – LA City Beat; “Impressive!” –
All About Jazz; “He’s a player who’s found his own voice” –
Cadence, “Gladiator of the sax” – Manchester Evening News

announced that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) will no longer be
defending the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in the lawsuits
currently pending against it. - DOMA defines marriage in all federal
laws as the union of a man and a woman, and protects the ability of
states to not recognize same-sex marriages from other states, but now
is under legal challenge.

Substance
Rancho Santa Margarita, CA - We were looking forward to a substantive
debate between Mr. Chuck DeVore and Mr. Todd Spitzer as they attempt
to make their case for a Third District Board of Supervisors seat in
2012. Given their collective experience in public service, the
operative question is whether they have become part of the problem, or
part of the solution. We are still looking. We publicly challenged both
candidates to see whether they had any specific bold proposals -
emphasis on bold, for what should be obvious reasons- for the fiscal
tsunami facing the county, and to make sure they got the memo, we
tried to reach them multiple times via their Facebook accounts, asking
them to respond by no later than April 29, 2011 at 5:00 pm. Mr. DeVore
was gracious enough to respond. We have yet to hear from Mr. Spitzer.

From: Nancy Muehling, Lincoln Lancaster Habitat For HumanityTo: Hub
Hall Heights Home Owners AssociationDate: April 11, 2011We have been
using Hardi-plank, a concrete board as exterior siding. This siding is
carefully caulked and painted with high quality paint and the
experience in the industry is that one can expect at least a 10 year
life. We chose this product because it is a much better product than
vinyl. It will wear well and stand up to the wear and tear of a hail
storm. When you touch this siding it doesn't move. Often with the
vinyl siding a repair cannot be matched. We use a 30 year shingle,
