Saddleback
College Speech/Debate Team Wins Big at Nationals!
Posted by CotoBlogzz 04-24-2010 09:00 PM Mission Viejo, CA – The Division of Fine Arts and Media Technology proudly announce that the Saddleback Forensics Team took 3rd Place in large school individual events and 4th in the overall large school sweepstakes at the Phi Rho Pi National Tournament in New Orleans April 2-11. Among the 64 colleges in attendance, the Saddleback Forensics team brought home numerous awards. In fact 12 of the 13 students were medal winners and some won multiple awards.
“I’m ecstatic about our victory!” said Larry Radden Co-Director of the Saddleback Forensics team. “The team exceeded my expectations in New Orleans . Unlike some programs that peaked at State, we worked rigorously for the two week interlude between State and Nationals and it paid off big time. Heidi stayed home and delivered her baby while we were at the tournament yet she worked all the way up to the day before we departed. I could not ask for a more dedicated Co-director and team. In addition, President Tod Burnett and our Associated Student Government (ASG) are all the driving forces behind the successes!”
“We
had a phenomenal year,” explained Heidi Ochoa ,
Co-director of the Forensics Team. “Since the
beginning of this semester, our students have
dedicated their lives to refining their performance
skills. Our students crammed in practices on weekdays
and weekends as early as 5:30 in the morning and as
late as midnight to increase their competitive
potential. Thus, it was awesome to hear that the
judges at the National tournament rewarded their work
ethic. It has been an absolute honor to collaborate
with Co-director Larry Radden, the Associate Student
Government, President Tod Burnett , Joyce Bartlomain ,
Nina Welch, part-time coach Das Nugent, and alumni
this year to achieve the 2009-2010 Saddleback Speech
& Debate Team’s goals.”
