Because of the
concern over recent attempted kidnappings in Ladera
Ranch the Orange County Sheriff and department
members responsible for protecting that community
will be addressing the issue tonight in a special
event hosted by the Ladera Ranch Civic Counsel
The
special event is scheduled to take place today at
5:30 PM at the Ladera Ranch Middle School and
is designed for children and parents to discuss the
recent incidents and to allow children to hear ways
to protect themselves from dangerous strangers.
Although
the event specifically addresses Ladera Ranch
concerns, parents in Coto de Caza should be as
concerned, if not more. The reason is that the
gates provide not only a false sense of security,
but it specifically allows a number of strangers in
the community providing a convenient cover.
Consider for example that on February 20, 2009 we
reported a flurry of activity surrounding
unsolicited sale of services in Coto de Caza from
Gecko solar panel installations to domestic,
landscape and construction services. Delivery
of sales material include door-to-door calling,
flier delivery and last but not least, violations of
US Postal regulations.
Yet,
although apparently everybody knows this is going
on, the property management company tells us not to “have
received any other complaints regarding this
activity in recent times” , reads a

we started reporting crime and vandalism figures, the
OCSD has gone through some changes in the way it
collects or reports the data. For the past year
or so, the data has been retrieved largely by hand.
For this report, we understand it has been done
programmatically. While in the past it was hit
and miss trying to get the data, this time the report
was ready as promised.
