If you were told that the political office of your
choice was available and if you were to run, you would
not only be competitive, but victory could be
assured, would you not run?
Whether Assemblyman Chuck DeVore can emerge victorious
in his bid to unseat Senator Boxer in 2010 is open for
debate. However, he says he is interested.
He is running for the United States Senate in 2010,
because “California deserves strong, active, and
conservative representation in Washington, D.C.”
and because DeVore believes:
 |
- "Our
natural rights are inherent to our
humanity, not a grant from government.
- The role
of government is limited to securing our
rights from external danger and internal
lawlessness.
- That
when government exceeds this mandate, our
liberty is at risk. As George
Washington said, “Government is not
reason, it is not eloquent; it is force.
Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a
fearful master.”

|
- For too long
now, our elected representatives have softly
encouraged us to give up our independence to
government. Year after year, we see
government’s responsibilities grow while our
personal liberty shrinks."
Now consider the following:
Now consider that the US Congress' job approval
rating is the lowest in the 34-year Gallup Poll
history of asking the question. A 2006 Harris
Poll concluded that doctors and teachers are the
most trusted among 22 occupations and professions,
with the least trusted professions being
journalists, members of Congress, organized labor
leaders, stockbrokers, lawyers and actors
Still interested?
Now consider so-called journalists such as Keith
Olbermann mocking Governor Sarah Palin during NFL
football games! What about Bill Maher mocking
the governor? Not to mention the unspeakable mocking
of the governor by rappers under the guise of art and
freedom of expression!
Still Interested?
So, we asked both Assemblyman Chuck DeVore and Senator
Barbara Boxer the following: Under the current
political environment, why would anyone in
his or her right mind run for public office?
Earlier this week, I spent a few minutes on the phone
with Assemblyman DeVore trying to understand his
motivation for pursuing a political office that will
turn him into a big target for cheap shots and
vilification.
In the process we discussed a number of issues,
including President Obama’s European trip, the
President’s stern message to South Korea anent a
rocket launch and the President’s eloquence on the
Armenian Genocide during his meeting with the Turkish
Prime Minister. We also got to touch on the
issue of traditional marriage.
The more questions I asked in order to ascertain why
the Assemblyman is willing to pay the high price, the
more we came back to the same answer: Principle.
Might DeVore's stand be analogous to the story of
courage under fire set in days of the Persian Empire,
when Esther and the Jewish people were brought to the
very edge of destruction?
Esther’s faith in God
was a closely guarded secret known only to her people,
and certainly not to her husband, the King. Then
a villain is promoted to the King’s second in
command and soon the villain decides that all the
people in the kingdom are going to bow down to the
King as a sign of respect, planning
the genocide of all the Jewish people throughout the
Persian Empire. At this point, Esther is asked to run
– that is, she is being asked to stand up and risk
being killed by her husband.
What does Queen Esther do? She courageously
tells the king that she and her people, the Jews are
in mortal danger. The King is furious! The
villain is taken away and receives the
consequences of his hatred and his bitterness.
We know the President bowed to a king (not
The King) Assemblyman DeVore has
stated he will stand on principle. What will
Senator Boxer do?
We are waiting to hear
from the Senator....

No.
Hope this helps,

(Your post is
correct in addressing the mocking issue head-on,
though. DeVore has some definite issues on
the mockability front.)

Assemblyman
DeVore seems to be addressing the state’s and
national issues head on, ramifications be
damned. He does have a verifiable record of
standing on principle and that means a good
segment of the voters may not like him or his
principles.
On the other
hand, there are demagogues who easily say that
the mass murder of 1.5 million Armenian’s is
genocide, when he is with Armenians, but will
say that “such matters are for historians”,
when talking to the Turks. Or say that Jerusalem
must not be divided, or say that the US is not a
Christian nation, or say that America should not
compromise her values, then authorize millions
to murder the voiceless, bow to a king (not
The King) …....you get the point.
I will take the
former any day of the week!- Buzz
