Shut Up! Shameful, Coward Nation

Posted by: CotoBlogzz | 02/26/2009 9:00 AM

The Shut Up Rule
Recently, a good number of local politicians have adopted a Shut Up Rule, allegedly for efficiency purposes.  Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens statements that she does not agree that her restrictive CCW policies infringe on Second Amendment Rights can be construed as another instance of the Shut Up Rule.  The piece du resistance however is the recently released Orange County Grand Jury  report titled "Let The Sheriff Do her Job." And supported by OCR columnist and Hutchens cheerleader.

So Shut Up and let the Sheriff do Her Job, you shameful, coward nation!

A Coward Nation
Last week Eric Holder, the nation's first black attorney general, in a speech to Justice Department employees marking Black History Month, said  the United States was "a nation of cowards" on matters of race, with most Americans avoiding candid discussions of racial issues.

The AG's comments drew the ire of Frances Rice Chairman of the National Black Republican Association, and others. "Holder's outrageous and insulting declaration is a harbinger of Obama's sinister scheme to use race as a weapon to bludgeon Americans into submitting to his socialist will - supporters and non-supporters alike," reads Rice's statement titled Race Mongering, Presidential Style released over the weekend.  Refer to other commentaries including:  A Cowardly Conversation Starter by Jonah Goldberg and  A Nation of Cowards by Linda Chavez

"So were the 52% of Americans who voted for Obama "cowards" or was it the rest of us who voted for McCain that are "cowards"?   As an employer that is color blind, am I a "coward" for having a diverse work force....What is wrong with these people?   They have to stop thinking as victims and finally admit that anyone who gets a good education and works hard in this country can overcome prejudice or any obstacle.  It does help to be smart too.  A low IQ idiot or imbecile (there are legal definitions of both) of any color is probably not going to achieve much in life.  My Italian immigrant grandfather who spoke no English and had little education did not let that stop him from being successful because he never saw himself as a victim and he was smart and worked hard.  The statement made by the Attorney General of the United States was ridiculous and insulting to the entire nation." - Joe the Business Owner

A Shameful Nation

And just in from Hollywood

"I think it is a good time for those who voted for the ban against gay marriage to sit and reflect and anticipate their great shame and the shame in their grandchildren's eyes if they continue that way of support. We've got to have equal rights."
Sean Penn, accepting the Oscar for Best Actor- February 22, 2009

This is the message that was communicated throughout the world on Sunday night during the Academy Award show by Hollywood liberals, including their "best actor" Sean Penn.
It is perhaps not surprising that Hollywood liberals would use their "awards" show to campaign in favor of gay marriage. After all, many of these same liberals donated or raised millions of dollars to attempt to defeat Proposition 8.

What is perhaps surprising is their brazen attempt to influence public opinion against traditional marriage by manipulating people into thinking that this is a "human rights" issue, or a "civil rights" issue, or even an "equal rights" issue. What they don't tell people is that gay couples in domestic partnerships in California already have equal rights! Gay domestic partners in California enjoy the same legal rights as married spouses.

Liberal Hollywood activists like Sean Penn know a thing or two about reaching audiences. They make millions - tens of millions - learning how to connect with an audience. One audience they no doubt hoped to influence on Sunday night was the California Supreme Court, which is hearing challenges to invalidate Prop 8 in just ten days. Another audience probably watched the show from the upstairs of the White House in Washington. Still another audience is made up of voters here in California, enough of the 7 million of whom they hope to shame into repudiating their votes cast in favor of traditional marriage the next time the issue is on the ballot.

Traditional marriage has served society well, and there are many sound reasons why people support one man, one woman marriage - including continuing the best institution to give children both a mother and a father. Prop 8 wasn't an attack on gay couples, it was an affirmation of traditional marriage - but you didn't hear that at the Academy Awards.

So Shut Up and let the Sheriff do Her Job, you shameful, coward nation!

Amazing Coto, now you've linked the US Attorney General, White House, California Supreme Court and Academy awards to the Sheriff's CCW policy. I guess there's no end to how far you can stretch this issue.- Dallas

Dallas

You previously dismissed the GJ as "as nothing more than an opinion that should not have been given" - however, you forget or choose to ignore the larger implications - analogous to the message t communicated throughout the world by Hollywood liberals, including Sean Penn.

If you do not share the liberal persuasion and bring race into the competence issue, you are a racist. If not, you are a coward,

What is the GJ's message intended to do? Stifle discourse on the Disarm, Intimidate, Ridicule and Obfuscate debate and let the Sheriff do what she wants, how she wants - after all, it is the law - right? – CotoBlogzz

Dallas

The way that you attempt to marginalize the Sheriff by linking her to these ultra left wing Hollywood types is what I find laughable. The story I read about the individual GJ members who supported the Sheriff's position indicates that they are NRA members and generally on the "right" side of the political spectrum. Your attempt to link Sheriff Hutchens and the GJ as part of the vast left wing conspiracy to silence opposition sounds utterly ridiculous.

I believe the GJ's message to the BoS basically said stay out of another elected's business. I believe the issue is more nuanced than that and therefore disagree with the GJ but the link to the Hollywood liberals is once again a stretch.

CotoBlogzz

I am not laughing and I am sure a good number of Constitutionalists are not either.

CotoBlogzz

This just in ----"Wednesday Attorney General Eric Holder said that the Obama administration will seek to reinstitute the assault weapons ban which expired in 2004 during the Bush administration." - I suppose you see any opposition to the AG/Obamas' actions herein also laughable?

Dallas

No Coto, your attempt to link Sheriff Hutchens to the Hollywood left and gay marriage is what's laughable. It also borders on a amateurish McCarthyism.

CotoBlogzz

We are getting somewhere - since you are the intelligence expert, are you saying that the link to the AG is not laughable?

For laughs - what position do you think Hollywood has on the CCW issue? Is that also laughable?

Dallas

What the hell does it matter Coto? One minute we're talking about Sheriff Hutchens policy on good cause and the next thing I know you're shooting high and to the left (pun intended) about the Hollywood elite and their views on gay marriage. Try to remember, it's the CCW issue, not the gay marriage issue.

CotoBlogzz

Again: What do you suppose the Hollywood elite's stance is on the CCW issue - if you do not think there is a connection, your assessment about your inteligence prowess is weaker than I even gave you credit for.

Dallas

Their opinion is irrelevant to this topic. Unless you assert that they are behind the Sheriff's policy on good cause or somehow influenced her decsion, which I seriously doubt.

And for the record, don't give me too much credit. I truly am not desrving of it.

CotoBlogzz

Dallas:

The LA/Hollywood connection is indubitable - did you read the LA Times editorial? Did you watch the Oscars editorials - this is your brain....get it?

Dallas

Coto, the Sheriff instituted her policy several months back. the fact that the CCW supporters generated a media storm over it has garnered some press from the LA times, Orange County Register and several columnists but that was AFTER the Sheriff implemented her policy.

Frank Mickadeit also seems to support her. Is he part of some vast left wing conspiracy as well? Oh and the Grand Jury was full of LA types too wink wink.

CotoBlogzz

You are inspired! - the evidence room must have logged in a new shipment of the good stuff - I would not have thought Frank Mickadeit would be part of any conspiracy, but now that you mention it, there are a number of interesting links:

Consider that like the Sheriff, Frank Mickadeit deals mostly in the fluff, rather than substance. Just wit his apparent infatuation with a trashy reality TV show, over other substantive issues.

While I was criticizing the process used by the OCBOS to select the new Sheriff, Frank Mickadeit was extolling the Sheriff's virtues.

While Ms. Bates legislates that the BOS should simply SHUT UP, anent the SHerifff's handling of the Constitution, I have been speaking up.

While the GJ, for whatever reason, decides on a vacuous action to SHUT UP the Sheriff's critics and Frank Mickadeit jumps in the bandwagon using a "guts" argument, and I write this piece, I suppose you cannot come up with a more stark contrast - but of course I have no idea what is in the evidence room.

As sated before, if the Sheriff could trample on the Constitution thinking there would not be any repercussion, she severely underestimated the people she swore to serve and protect. But then this the Hollywood Elite/LA Times modus operandi - the CCW supporters have simply added to the rage about the trampling of the Constitution.

RonSallinger

when can we start cutting the budget for the sheriffs department? The sooner we get rid of the dead weight in this county the sooner profress can be made. I'd start with getting rid of the bloggers who work for the OCSD. You happen to know any Dallas?

CotoBlogzz

Ron:

Dallas may think the issue you bring up is good for a laugh - it is not. It is dead serious: Ironically, a previous GJ investigation- iif you can believe that one - coupled with my own investigation, finds a culture where individuals do enough just to get to pension. - that is, the "accountability-solved" canned response the Sheriff touts cannot be simply solved by removing the command staff and or a simple slap on the wrist.

"Hi Sgt. This reporter is killing me. And will likely write something inaccurate and slanted if I don't come back with something", writes a Sheriff's spokesperson of Elton John fame, begging to get some information on an open case after month's of asking - with no response. For example.

Dead weight? Dead wood? What about a dead forest?

Dallas

Again, I find it laughable that you stray off on other topics like gay marriage, hollywood elite, pensions, the US Attorney General etc...and then tie it all in to Sheriff Hutchens policy on the CCW issue.

CotoBlogzz

Do you also find Ron's point about the dead forest in the department laughable? If so, you may want to check the stuff you are smoking - either that or you may be working some overtime in the evidence room - where the laughing gasses are stored, for instance.

Dallas

Whats the matter Ron? Am I getting under your skin? I know I"m "outgunned" on this blog, at least as it relates to this issue. Maybe you'd like it better if I went away and you could sing Kumbaya with Coto.

CotoBlogzz

Dallas:

Congratulations! - Your are on to something here! - maybe it is not a philosophical (or threshold of belief) issue associated with the Sheriff's stance on the CCW issue - maybe it is a psychological one - Freud would love to tackle: As in a feeling of being "outgunned" and or not having a gun at all. Hence, if I do not have a gun, no-one else can one one - either!

Brilliant! - another link to the Hollywood elite, as you put it - right?

Dallas

Okay, it was a bad pun. I admit it. It was a deliberate attempt at humor and I"m sorry you didn't take it that way, but try not to psychoanalyze it too much. It might lead you down another paranoid path that Freud would scratch his head about.

CotoBlogzz

On the other hand, like a real CSI episode, you just clearly and succinctly articulated the most compelling reason for the Sheriff's overly restrictive policy which says: "Only the Sheriff can decide what good cause is and what do about it":

If I do not have a gun, no one else should have access to one either

I suppose to some degree that's true. She does have alot of lattitude in determining what good cause is. I don't necessarily agree with it but she does have the penal code behind her. If you disagree, do what I've said and get another candidate who shares your view. If a majority of voters side with you then I say good for you.

CotoBlogzz

Indeed I feel in no uncertain terms, that it is a breach of fiduciary responsibility at best to go from a "serve and protect" to Disarm, Intimidate, Ridicule and Obfuscate style and will continue to provide opinions/trends/facts to see how many others agree with my position – and as you say, the vote will ultimately decided – contrary to Ms. Bates, GJ and or Mickadeits’ recommendations, I do not intend to Shut Up any time soon.

Dallas

Nor would I suggest that you shut up. I know we don't always see things through the same prism and I've occaisonally suggested that your paranoia has skewed your perspective but I value differing opinions nonetheless.

RonSallinger

Again your wrong. #1 I dont want you to go away. Your opinion is just as irrelevant as mine. #2 The only thing that gets under my skin is wasteful spending. Let me give you an example, a county employee blogging when he should be working. So, I will ask the question again...........You know anyone like that Dallas? In the private sector we call this a budget cut. However, if you work for sandra this is a resume enhancer. It's got nothing to do with your opinion. It has to do with wasteful spending. After being on this blog, I could give some suggestions to the BOS where budget cuts could take place..............Guess where I would suggest?

Dallas

Sorry Ron, but if you think I'm posting my opinions on the county dime you're wrong. I only post from my home computer.

RonSallinger

We'll see. For those of us who know who you are (and we do), we find comfort in knowing that all the political hacks in the OCSD will be exposed for what they are. Coto, please keep all this guys posts. It's going to be interesting to pull up his work schedule and match it to his posts. See where this is going Dallas?

Allow me to go back to my original statement.............budgets in the OCSD need to be cut and we need to start with the bums at middle management that are not needed. Dallas, without naming names, I'm trying to give you the opportunity to do the right thing. I can't make it any clearer to you.

No worries here Ron. Have a great weekend :-)
