Internet Child Predators in the OC

WESTMINSTER, CA  - The Orange County District Attorney's Office (OCDA) will appear in court this afternoon to oppose a motion by a convicted sex offender, who is trying to modify his 6-month sentence after serving only two weeks in jail. Pharmaceutical technician Robert  Alarcia, 32, Los Angeles, was convicted April 24, 2007, of attempting to meet a fictitious 13-year-old girl with the intention of having sex with her after exchanging explicit sexual messages over the Internet. Alarcia was found guilty by a jury of one felony count of attempted lewd act on a child under the age of 14. The Honorable David Hoffer sentenced the defendant to 180 days in jail over the objection of the People, who advocated for three years in state prison.

The People will object to the defense motion to modify probation for Alarcia to be released from jail today, Friday, May 22, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. in Department W-18, West Justice Center, Westminster.

Stephen Robert Deck, 54, Carlsbad, Lieutenant of California Highway Patrol. He is scheduled for jury trial on Aug. 17, 2009, at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana. Norindra Say, 37, Tustin, engineer, has a fugitive warrant for his arrest after failing to appear for a hearing in July 2006.

Ten additional defendants have been convicted and sentenced. Shih-Hung Chuang, 34, Hacienda Heights, importer, was sentenced to 180 days in jail. David Phuong Pham, 33, Los Angeles, unemployed, was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

Jonathan Augustine Reese, 43, Westchester, supervisor at Starbucks, was convicted by a jury and sentenced to 240 days in jail and sex offender registration. Deep Arora, 23, unemployed, was convicted by a jury and sentenced to one year in jail and sex offender registration. 

Defendants Nery Roberto Folgar, 32, Alta Dena, salesperson, Benjamin Alan Taul, 30, Placentia, bartender, Ryan Arnell Mount, 32, North Hollywood, unemployed, John Inkyoo Yi, 46, Anaheim, laborer, Benjamin Paul McAlister, 24, Loomis, student, and Jimmy Miguel Varela, 35, Norwalk, unemployed, pleaded guilty and were each sentenced to one year in jail and sex offender registration.
