AM We
were fortunate enough to catch up with newly
minted Third Board director K. McDaniel, and she
was kind enough to take the time and respond to your
questions. CBJ:
Congratulations
on your recent election to the board – we know the
election was highly contested. KM:
Thank
you for your congratulations. CBJ: CotoBuzz
Journal readers, perhaps more than most, know that
working in a HOA/CID environment is very much a
thankless job -
so why did you decided to run? KM:
Basically I am an appointment by the Third board.
I think I was probably a compromise candidate which
united a majority of the board. I talk to
everybody and listen to all who care to speak to me. I
am recognized at board and committee meetings because
I have an interest in governance and the community and
have attended and participated actively in countless
board and committee meetings. When I speak I try to
focus on the reason and avoid hard and fast positions. CBJ: Would you consider your selection to the board as a vote for the status quo, for reform, or for revolution.
CBJ:
Can you share
with the CotoBuzz Journal readers what you expect to
accomplish during your term, as well as any challenges
you may face? KM:
The major concerns, as I see them here in LWV,
are twofold and separate yet conjoined. We are
presently a community of two distinct generations and
it is vital that we respect and honor the needs and
desires of the older generation as well as those
of the younger group. That will continue as time
marches forth and subsequent generations live here. The
other is the economy and financial concerns. We are a
community of senior citizens, that is residents over
55 years of age. We have a population of mostly
retirees yet we have a fair percentage of residents
who are still working full time. It is important to
try to be aware of everybody's needs. Reserves
are of primary concern because they are what will keep
our community in good repair. With an awareness of
that we are also concerned with people being able to
continue to live in this community while helping,
through their contributions to reserve funds via
assessments. In this economy, which is at best
uncertain, we need to proceed with great care and keep
a very sharp eye on each and every expenditure. I
personally feel it is critical to be completely
informed and have as full an understanding of the
needs and availability of funding for everything in
this community as possible. Communication and
civil debate help with this understanding and
conscientious decision making. CBJ:
As you may know,
political assassinations are relatively common –
do you expect any assassination during your term? KM:
No, I do not anticipate any assassinations....but then
who ever does? I will count on the good
will, participation and intentions of the majority
.....boad and residents alike. I would like to
encourage each and every member to attend meetings of
the boards and their committees and to play an active
and positive role in the governance of their
community.
