The OC Register - Argument for Community Journalism June 18, 2009 Letter to OC Register's Local Management It's
incredible ... you keep interfering with our
community getting important information regarding the
United
Recall. Now you've pulled stories of
the recall from the Local News/Laguna Woods site.
This site is an opportunity for people to read about
what is happening and add comments. You are
taking that right away from them. In
the past, stories are maintained through links for months, so
folks can go back and find them. Now, there is
nothing at this site, yet this is perhaps the most
important story to 90%+ of the people in our City. Why
have you done this? Why do you continue to take
sides on this issues? Why don't you just play it
straight? Doesn't keeping a female impersonnator
(Jim Bailey ) as your top story, for weeks now, while
discarding the really important current
recall story after only days, pretty much fit the
defination of "yellow journalism"? In
last week's story (now gone), you did inappropriately
listed
PCM's phone number for people to contact.
If that was the reason you pulled the story, then
you could have simply deleted that paragraph - not the
whole story. Please straighten it out this
morning, and reinstall the links, stories, and related
comments about our recall activities. By
the way, Teri Sforza's stories continue to be
available at the OCWatchDog site: I
think this demonstrates that the Local
News/Laguna Woods stories wern't pulled by
folks in Santa Ana - they were pulled by your
local Globe office. Please fix it today - the
bias and unprofesssionalism you folks demonstrate is
shameful. One
other point: The Yes on Recall side expects
to purchase two or perhaps three half page ads once
the recall mailing is completed. In other words,
we are planning to by ad space in the Globe.
But, let me assure you - we do not need to buy the
space and have other much more powerful
techniques to inform the community. Please play
it straight and you might get a little business out of
this.
Editor's Note: Mr. Curtis, as Director of the Laguna Woods Mutual Board of Directors has been fighting a classic battle the Community Associations Institute (CAI) might characterize as " a rare David and Goliath battle in a common interest development". We on the other hand see this on a daily basis. Mr. Curtis wants transparency. Some residents just want R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Instead, Mr. Curtis gets a good dose of verbal and physical abuse.
