Psssst - Do not tell anyone, Coto Elections are Held Today!

The good news is that the email message below was sent out May 21 and again May 26 reminding  CZ Master association delegates and alternates of today's board election.

There are a couple of major issues.  a) What happened to Candidate's Night and b) How were delegates and alternates informed they had in fact been elected delegates? In other words, am I a delegate or an alternate, or none of the above?

Perhaps the information is on the association’s website, you think? – tried that yesterday -  did not work.  The CZ Master association in its infinite wisdom, has just unveiled the fourth website in five years.  Yes, that is right - the fourth one!

So we sent the message  below to Xochitl Yocham,  CZ Master association president, and Vinnie Davis, CZ general manager, about  the rationale  for investing in one more website when their management has seen reserves dipped to unprecedented dangerous levels  - No response

Just as  important is the question  about, what happened to the Election Night – you know, where board candidates respond to question about the management of the association affairs.

Of course, with three dues increases in three years, the fourth website in five years plus all the subsidies (over $3 million/year in gate access, horse trail maintenance, for example) that may be codified in the new City of Coto, perhaps it is best NOT to ask questions. Or even if you do, perhaps you will not get a response

Subject: Annual Meeting Courtesy Reminder

Dear Delegate and Alternate Delegate,

As the district member elected to represent your district members in the upcoming election of the Board members on May 28, 2009, you must be present at the meeting to cast votes on behalf of your district members. Please mark your calendar to attend the Annual meeting at 6PM on May 28th at the Coto Golf & Racquet Club. Should the elected delegate not be able to attend the alternate delegate may cast the votes for the district.

Thank you for your attention to this reminder and we hope to see you on the 28th. Please call the CZ Master Management office at 949-777-1161 should you have any questions regarding the voting process.

Thank you.

Excerpts of letter sent to CZ Master Association President

“I tried to access the new CZ Master Association's website yesterday, but was unable to - apparently the database has not been migrated.  This however raises a number of old issues, such as privacy and security, and new ones.  When I first brought up the issue of privacy and security, the CZ Association never responded, as it could not defend the undefensible:  internal documents showed that privacy and security in the implementation of GateWorks was an afterthought.

This new website makes it the fourth one in five years.  What was the compelling reason for launching the previous one - now apparently made obsolete?

What are the attributes of the new website that rendered the previous one obsolete?

What were the measures taken to protect resident's privacy and security this time around?

How much has the association paid in total for the last three websites? - this is particularly important given the assocaition critics such as former member of the CZ Master Association has called it as fiscal mismanagement :

"In any case the balloon has burst with CZ.   Our Reserves are dangerously below where they should be at just 28.8%.   And, when the Board reported Reserves to be at 50% some time ago, they were talking about the recommended amount of $13,219,479. They were at about 50% of that number not the number needed to actually deal with future repairs.  The actual monies in Reserve are just 28.8% of $23,901,545 which will be needed in the future to cover repairs when they should be at 70% or more.  This CZ Board operates just like our state and federal governments, playing games with the numbers.   It is both irresponsible and just plain dishonest.  Joseph Morabito

We did get some answers - not all.  According to Vinnie Davis:

Instructions to access the new website

"...was done in the newsletters as well as a mailer was mailed to each household with step by step instructions so you could set up your own profile selecting your own log on and password"

For Elections:

"Candidates Night was held on May 7th. It was published in the April and May newsletters that were placed both in the billing statements and in the Coto Voice. Elected Delegates received Notice of the Annual Meeting along with Candidacy statements which were also supplied to the attendees at Candidates night. The elected Delegate for Hillsboro is Barbara Stewart. The five candidates running this year are as follows: Florence Bell, Vince Hylka, Vince Rossini, Conrad Sick, and Robert Varo" - click here for bios

It would not be the first time, but my billing invoices did not contain such information.  From input we have had from other residents, they have had a similar experience. If it is contained in Coto Voice, perhaps that just shows you how much we look forward to reading it.

Breaking News:  2007 CZ Elections Results now Available from the CotoBuzz Journal! We can now predict with a reasonable degree of accuracy the results of the 2007 CZ Master Association Board of directors.  The theme for the 2007 elections?   Big Change!

Auditioning For a New Board or Getting Ready for the 2008 CZ Elections In the Delegates Corner column of the June 2007 issue of the CZ Newsletter (CotoVoice), a direct reference is made to the Coto Discussion Forum and characterized as a platform for “constant barrage of nastiness directed at public officials in the print and electronic media serves no useful purpose”, echoing previous interpretations of the (Jerry Mezger) meaning of the 2007 CZ elections that the entire community has tuned out and no one reads the blogs.  CZ election results and record breaking May 2007 blogzz activity tell a significantly different story, however.

DaVaro Deception - Law and Order !   We don’t need no stinkin' law, WE are the law! VARO/MEZGER/HILL:  Hell now, won’t go! – we will not leave the Coto de Caza board under any circumstances! Besides public safety, what has sparked the interest of several Coto Discussion Forum participants and CotoBlogzz readers is the issue of direct democracy within Coto de Caza.  That is, given that recently the state legislature passed SB61 intending to obsolete a most corrupt district delegate and cumulative voting process, the question is, why did the Varo/Mezger/Hill board not adopt direct elections for the 2006-2007 board of directors elections?  The response from the board was that there was simply not enough time.

Looking ahead to 2008 – Deliverance for Coto de Caza2008 promises to be some sort of deliverance for Coto de Caza and the canyons – as in the 1972 movie Deliverance, a motion picture drama starring Burt Reynolds, Ronny Cox, Jon Voight, and Ned Beatty and directed by John Boorman- so appear to claim local community journalists.
