Coto de Caza Man Kills in a Mockingbird

As in To Kill a Mockingbird, at Saddleback College

Posted by CotoBlogzz | October 15, 2008 11:17 AM

The Department of Theatre Arts at Saddleback College is will be presenting To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee, and directed by Maria Mayenzet. Lawyer Atticus Finch defends the real mockingbird --a black man charged with the rape of a white woman. Cota de Caza resident Richard Hawkes plays Atticus.

Event dates:  November 7th, 8th, 13th, 14th & 15th at 8pm and November 9th and 16th at 3pm.

Through the eyes of Atticus's children, Scout and Jem Finch, the story explores, with rich humor and unanswered honesty, the irrationality of adult attitudes toward race and class in the Deep South of the 1930's.  Harper Lee describes the play as “a love story, pure and simple:  love for the South, a father’s love for his children and their love for him.

There will also be a special high school night on November 13th at 8pm in the McKinney Theatre.  A panel discussion with the director, designer and experts in American Literature will follow after the performance
