House Speaker Nancy Pelosi reaches beyond her pay grade - The Gospel According to Nancy Pelosi

While Senator Barrack Obama believes that it is beyond his pay grade to opine on when human life begins, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi reaches beyond her own pay grade by interpreting Catholic faith.

San Francisco Archbishop George H. Niederauer, in a piece in the September 2008 issue of the National News ( and in the September 5, 2008 issue of Catholic San Francisco, the official newspaper of the Archdiocese of San Francisco) , responds to the Speaker's recent remarks on abortion, Catholic teachings, the beginning of life and other life issues and writes in part that the Speaker's remarks and subsequent statements released through her office "... are in serious conflict with the teachings of the Catholic Church about abortion".

The Archbishop closes with an apology for addressing the issues in a public forum and as her pastor, invites the Speaker for a conversation.

We understand that the Speaker has accepted and may be attending Sunday School this weekend.

COMMENTS

Catholic Bishops have put Catholic politicians on notice that if they support abortion, they are not permitted to take communion in a Roman Catholic Church. That is the equivalent of excommunication. As a Roman Catholic who is strongly opposed to abortion, if Joe Biden, Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi or Arnold Schwarzenegger, who all claim to be Catholics, attended our church, I would demand that they be turned away from Communion to the point of standing between them and our parish priest. I would invite them all to join some other left leaning Christian denomination that is pro-choice if that is their preference. Joe Morabito
