We do not make jokes, we simply watch the LA Times, the Orange County Register and CID/HOA board of directors and report the facts!

Government agencies spend taxpayer money to promote self-interests

According to LA Times reporter David Zahniser,  “two weeks ago, the Los Angeles Unified School District mailed voters what officials described as a “fact sheet” on Measure Q, a $7-billion construction bond on the Nov. 4 ballot.”  And “Although it did not explicitly tell recipients how to vote, the taxpayer-funded document dropped some major hints, using such headlines as “Measure Q Improves School Safety,” “Measure Q Improves the Learning Environment” and “Measure Q is Fiscally Accountable.”

This is the same school district which has sided with those wanting to defeat the traditional marriage proposition.

Zahniser points to a LA Times survey which found that “Los Angeles school district is one of at least eight agencies in Southern California using taxpayer money to stage outreach campaigns about measures that would benefit them”, drawing complaints from taxpayer advocates and clean government groups.

Zahniser concludes that “The practice is legal as long as the information avoids ‘express advocacy,’ but critics say some of this year’s efforts go too far”

The United States already spends more on public education than any other industrialized nation and yet we have the poorest results because teacher unions will not allow standards, metrics and terminations of weak teachers.   It really is pretty simple.  So we certainly should not give public schools any more money for the unions to waste.  By the way, teacher unions have donated significant monies to support a No vote on Proposition 8 which would allow for gay marriage.  Gosh, what does that have to do with education?  Joseph Morabito
