Winter Cleaning at the OCSD Continues

The fallout of Sheriff Carona’s resignation continued to unfold Friday, as his former second-in-command, Assistant Sheriff Jo Ann Galisky was released, and Assistant Sheriff Steve Bishop, head of investigations, announced his immediate retirement

In October 2007, Sheriff Carona was indicted on federal corruption charges.

John Moorlach, chairman of the county board of supervisors, said Friday that the departure of Galisky and Bishop were tied to decision made in the department's investigation of the Oct. 5, 2006 killing of Chamberlain, a 41-year-old computer technician awaiting trial at Theo Lacy jail on charges of possessing child pornography.

Recently, the Orange County Board of Supervisors created an independent office to oversee the county jails, something Sheriff Carona had opposed. The supervisors also formed a special grand jury to look into the Chamberlain killing.

We have asked OC Sheriff candidates Jack Anderson, Bill Hunt, Craig Hunter, Kevin Keyes, Ralph Martin, Ken Maddox and Paul Walters if they think an extreme corporate culture is required at the OC Sheriff’s department:

Hunter responded “What the OCSD needs is a new leader with a proven track record in law enforcement who will be a strong role model, lead by example with integrity and provide a new vision of teamwork and accountability”, while Keyes thinks that “the first and most important priority is to restore honor to the office that was taken by its last office holder”, and Paul Walters needs to run the questions by the city attorneys and city manager. We should note that Sheriff Jack Anderson, while describing himself as a different kind of Sheriff has yet to respond to multiple inquiries.
