OCSD Insiders Make Paper Cut - How? We do not know

May 12 2008

We understand that a "paper cut" has been performed by Bob Murray and Associates, the talent search firm being used to hire the next OC Sheriff.  We have contacted a number of the cut candidates - apparently, they did not know they were no longer viable candidates.

Interestingly enough, Lt. Hunt, who was not cut from the list pledged to hire business professionals to help him run the OC Sheriff’s department, should he be elected, prompting businessman and cut candidate Kevin Keys to quip “why not elect me and cut the middleman?”

Of the candidates interviewed by the CotoBuzz Journal, Coto de Caza resident Commander Ralph Martin and Anaheim Deputy Police Chief Craig Hunter made the short list.  Generally all interviewed candidates agreed that the OCSD needs a makeover, and a return to integrity and trust.  As if on cue, two of the remaining insiders, Sheriff Jack Anderson and Lt. Bill Hunt, are already involved in mud wrestling:  Sheriff Anderson has launched an internal inquiry into whether any laws were broken when supporters of Lt. Bill Hunt e-mailed fundraiser invitations to the department computers.  This prompted Lt. Bill Hunt to recall Sheriff Anderson law-breaking incident in 2007 when the Sheriff improperly appeared in uniform before the San Clemente City Council to discourage them from endorsing Lt Hunt.

Seems like under the “make over” argument, neither insider should be consider for the OC Sheriff’s position.  Given that two OCSD insiders made the Bob Murray and Associates list, and others were not even contacted before they were cut, we have asked Darlene Bloom for a copy of the criteria used.  She has promised us a response.
