OC-CSI is Official – OCSD ASCLD/LAB Certified July
15,
2008 The OC Sheriff Department’s
Forensic Science Services Division is now Orange
County’s only ASCLD accredited, full service law
enforcement crime lab that provides crime scene
investigation and laboratory examinations on evidence
in all forensic disciplines, including fingerprints,
DNA, toxicology and firearms to name a few. Their
services are provided free to all law enforcement
agencies within the county. According to its website, the ASCLD
Society is composed of crime laboratory
directors, managers and supervisors from the United
States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, China,
Costa Rica, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy,
England, Israel, Sweden, Switzerland, New Zealand,
Sinapore, Taiwan, Turkey and Australia. The membership
consists of biologists, chemists, document examiners,
physicists, toxicologists, educators, instructors and
law enforcement officers whose major function is the
management of a crime laboratory. Academic Affiliate
Membership is open to all individuals who are
Educators and/or Instructors of Forensic Science
currently employed by an institution of Higher
Learning or Public Law Enforcement Training Academy. The Sheriff Department’s Forensic
Science Services Division provides crime scene
investigation and laboratory examinations on evidence
in all forensic disciplines, including fingerprints,
DNA, toxicology and firearms, for example. The lab's services are provided free
to all law enforcement agencies within the
county. At this time, we do not have information as to
how the lab's budget is derived, how "turf"
battles with the OCDA's office are prevented, or how
the lab's performance is measured. ASCLD/LAB accreditation is a
voluntary program intended to demonstrate that
the applicant's management, personnel,
operational and technical procedures, equipment and
physical facilities meet established standards. This
independent, impartial and objective review is
intended to offer the general public and the criminal
justice system confidence in the high quality work
performed by the dedicated men and women of the
Sheriff’s Crime Lab. We have contacted the
ASCLD/LAB for information pertaining to the lab's
onsite visits if any, and corresponding results.
The intention is to get independent verification of
the that the
ASCLD/LAB certification benefit claims. So
far, we have not heard from the ASCLD/LAB. CotoBlogzz Tagzz - use any number of social networking managers to share this (or any other articles in the Internet) with others...click here and select social bookmarkings threads RELATED

Despite the public abuse the CHP has received
from the Coto de Caza board of directors ever since
the board was coerced into bringing the CHP back for
pro-active traffic patrol, figures indicate that the
CHP is doing its job:
Trend for accident rate is down and close to
pre-firing levels.
Just as important, the number of Coto residents
arrested for DUI is down. See
