Working to Serve or Serving to Work? - AOCDS Fundraiser May
20,
2008 The
Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs (AOCDS)
is launching a fundraising drive, for the first time
in the association’s history, according to a piece
of direct mail, targeting the communities they serve. With
the mailer, the recipient gets an Annual Association
of Orange County Deputy Sheriff’s Decal and a
corresponding disclaimer which states:
“Possession of Support Decals will not
reflect preferential treatment during enforcement
contracts, but it will still allows a bearer to go
through any green light in town!”.
There are other tokens of appreciation as a
function of donation amount, from a $50 Gold
designation, to the $2,500 & up “presidents”
Plaque and Pin “We
are proud to provide police services to the community
of Coto de Caza”, reads
the mailer’s introductory paragraph.
If you choose to donate to the
AOCDS, you may want to ask how many hours the
OCSD serves the community of Coto de Caza – we asked
Lt. Griffin the question, but have not heard from him. While
you are at it, perhaps you can ask the AOCDS if they
are part of the problem, or the solution, or as OC
Sheriff candidate Kevin Keys might say: ”Isn't it
time for an honest man to run our OC Sheriff
department and end what the OC Register says is
30-years of Corruption?” – as if prophetic,
the next day the LA Sheriffs Academy is shutdown for
you guessed it – corruption.
Or you may ask what the AOCSD is
doing about the grad jury findings concluding that
the OCSD’s culture is one of doing just “enough to
comply with the law”, or even enough to remain
employed. Clearly
the funds the AOCDS will raise will not be used to
fight the Orange County Board of Supervisors attempts
to dismantle the 3%
at 50 entitlement package that financially threatens
the viability of Orange and San Diego Counties
– right? Analogous
to what a Coto
de Caza resident may experience:
Pay the association to dole the
dough, then the association uses some of that dough to
threaten the resident. AOCDS Contact Information 1314 W 5th Santa Ana, CA 92703-3705 Tel 714-285-2800
