Laguna Woods Village GRF Election Results
Posted
by: Maxwell Benderian | 11/013/2008 11:00: AM Golden Rain Foundation (GRF) elections were held this morning in Laguna Woods Village. Successful candidates for directorships were incumbent Ruth May with the fewest votes (5,888 after weighting) followed by James Matson, present member of the Third Mutual Board with 7406 weighted votes, Bob Hatch, recently retired from Third Mutual with 9188 weighted votes and Burns Nugent formerly of United Mutual with 10,296 weighted votes. The directors of GRF are elected by the "corporate members" of GRF- the directors of the housing boards. Votes are weighted according to the size of the mutual and the number of directors varies from United and Third having 11 directors each and Towers Mutual 50 having 5. There are 6,323 members in United so the weighted vote is 574.82. In Third there are 6102 members with a weighted vote of 554.73 and Towers Mutual 50 has 311 members with 62.60 votes. The
vote tallying for a moment, resembled the 2008
Minnesota Senate Race involving candidate-
comedian Al Franken , when a proxy vote from United
was lost temporarily and not counted. Former GRF
Director and inspector of Elections Cynthia Chyba said
in essence, just let it go and if there is a big
difference we'll find some way to account for the
missing ballot. An uproar ensued while the President
of United Mutual said he knew the ballot was there
because he had seen to it that the information was
transferred to a ballot with a witness as required.
Ultimately the ballot was located in a stack of papers
in a paperclip held by Chyba. She had failed to
put it in the ballot box.
