If Kosovo can do it, so can CZ (residents that is) February
21,
2008 If Kosovo can declare its independence from Serbia in
defiance of Russian
edicts, why can’t CZ declare its independence from
Coto de Caza? The
Kosovar declaration brings to a climax a showdown between the West, which
argues that Serbia’s brutal subjugation of
Kosovo’s Albanian majority cost it any right to rule
the territory, and the Serbian government and its
allies in the Kremlin. This is no different from Coto de Caza’s long-time
subjugation of CZ residents, who are asked to pay for
everything from roads, to landscaping to gate access,
to horse trails, in return for using the name of the
enclave. We
suggest that CZ declares its independence by opting
for open and fair direct elections, rather than the
classic corrupt district delegate system, followed by
a declaration that any and all CZ subsidies will stop
immediately. If we can’t extract more money from the Estates and Village people by charging significantly higher transponder fees, the Trabuco gates should be moved back and they should be gated out of Coto. It really is that simple and it can be done. Joseph Morabito
