Coto de Caza Elections Above Board- Local Media Continues to Assert March
17,
2008 The
recent Coto de Caza elections dealing with direct
democracy were above board, continues to assert the
local media, in the face of Alleged
board support for direct elections and, Convoluted
process involving several changes when according to
associaiton legal counsel in an email distributed in
the Coto Discussion Group, an option on the table was
to consider a direct election amendment without
delegate involvement, and Official
association newsletter continues to promote and
misrepresent a delegate system as a representative
form of
government, when critics call it a most corrupt
delegate system Overly
complicated SECRET ballot system – more complicated
than Los Angeles’ recent double-bubble resulting in
a disenfranchisement of 40,000 voters Questionable
election process that may no hold up in court, and 70%
of Members who voted support Direct Popular
Elections, and 69%
of Delegates who voted support Direct Popular Elections Apparently the only dissident on the board supports direct
elections "if that is the will of the
people" and the only objection is a recall
threshold. It
is fair to say that a major change such as direct
elections will trigger the law of unintended
consequences and other things will need to be fixed if
and when direct elections come to Coto de Caza.
Recall threshold is simply a red herring. I won’t allow RECALL to be a red herring. I have a commitment from all CZ Board Members not just Mr. Varo to move direct elections forward to avoid costly litigation. Obviously, 70% of our member who voted were in favor. 69% of Delegates present were in favor. The majority on the CZ Board says they are in favor. So, after we deal with the Recall issue which was legitimate, what excuse could there possibly be for not approving Direct Popular Elections for Coto. As Winston Churchill always said, “Never Give Up, Never Give In”. I have always lived by this motto. I will not rest until we have Direct Popular Elections in Coto because it is the right thing to do. We will get there one way or another. Joseph Morabito, former member CZ board of directors.
