Trespassing Major Issue in Upper Chiquita Canyon – TCA requests public’s help

Posted By CotoBlogzz | 11/24/2008 2008 03:30 PM

As part of the conservation easement, the Transportation Corridor Agencies (The Toll Roads) is responsible for preserving, managing and restoring an area containing some 1,182 acres running east and west of the 241 near Coto de Caza and Rancho Santa Margarita. Management activities include weed control and scientific testing of different habitat management techniques.

Recently, there have been many instances of trespassing in Upper Chiquita Canyon and the Transportation Corridor Agencies (TCA) is asking the publics help.  The TCA has prepared a flyer describing among other things, the reasoning for implementing access restriction to certain areas  and providing alternatives – click here for a copy of the flyer.  For additional information

The Transportation Corridor Agencies (TCA) has been mandated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and the California Department of Fish and Game (CDFG) to preserve the wildlife and flora at the Upper Chiquita Canyon Conservation Area (Upper Chiquita). Upper Chiquita contains coastal sage scrub, oak woodland, and riparian habitat on approximately 1,200 acres. This site was formerly used for cattle grazing and ultimately planned to be a golf course. However, in coordination with the USFWS and CDFG, the TCA was able to place a Conservation Easement over the property thereby protecting it from development in perpetuity.
