March  2007 Issue

We do not make jokes, we simply watch the LA Times, the Orange County Register and the Coto de Caza Board of directors and report the facts!

Coto De Caza, Ladera Ranch, Safest Communities in the Canyons – Not!

March 1, 2007, 2007

According to the OCSD, Coto de Caza registered the highest incidence of crime/vandalism for 3Q2006.    On the other hand, Ladera Ranch ended 2006 with a significant reduction in crime and vandalism.

However, on a per capita basis, the crime rate for Coto de Caza and Ladera Ranch are roughly the same.

As previously reported, Coto de Caza continues to suffer from the GRUPS, or Michael Jackson Syndrome.

Additionally, Ladera Ranch is in 11th place in the number of residents arrested by the CHP for DUI related charges, with a total of  9.  San Juan Capistrano registered the largest number of DUI arrests with 43, whereas Rancho Santa Margarita barely made the dubious Top 25 Communities with Most DUI arrests

So how does Coto de Caza, and for that matter, Ladera Ranch, compare with the safest cities in South Orange County?  The Morgan Quitno  Awards for the 2005 Safest Cities rank  Mission Viejo in fourth place, Lake Forest at number six and Irvine in 11th place, exactly what we published in the November 2004 issue of CotoBuzz.  Coupled with the OCSD and CHP data, we continue to demonstrate that Coto de Caza crime figures continue to be higher than its non-gated neighbors, and Ladera Ranch is rapidly catching up!
