Diwali of the Second Kind Comes to Orange County – Feast of Lights at Saddleback Dec. 1, 2007

November 15, 2007

Diwali, the festival of lights, illuminates the darkness of the New Year's moon, and strengthens friendships and knowledge, with self-realization.  Diwali is celebrated on a nation-wide scale on the 15th day of the dark fortnight of the Hindu month of Ashwin, (October/November) every year. It symbolizes that age-old culture of India which teaches to vanquish ignorance that subdues humanity and to drive away darkness that engulfs the light of knowledge.

Closer to home, a different Diwali is being planned.          The Saddleback College Choirs and the Saddleback College Symphony  will present A Feast of Lights on Saturday, December 1 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, December 2 at 2 & 5 p.m.  This festive program, in time for the holidays brings together the choral ensembles, under the direction of Dr. Scott Farthing, and the Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Carmen Dominguez.  A Feast of Lights will delight audiences with a presentation of Christmas and Hanukkah music as well as a few surprises.  A traditional wassail is served following the matinee and before the evening performances.

Tickets are $18 general, $15 students/seniors. Call 949-582-4656 for ticket information.

Saddleback College is located at 28000 Marguerite Pkwy in Mission Viejo , just east of Interstate 5 at the Avery Parkway exit.  Parking is available in Lot 12.  Take Avery Parkway to Marguerite Parkway turn left to the third traffic light, which is Saddleback’s Marguerite entrance. Turn right into the campus and take the second left to “ Theatre Circle ,” turning right into Lot 12.
