Coto de Caza Truth Or Consequences September
27, 2006
Earlier this
morning we spent close to two hours with Mayor of the City of Laguna Nigel
Cathryn DeYoung & Candidate for Orange County Supervisor, Fifth District
and Lt. Col. Bill Kogerman.
From the
information we have been able to compile so far, a picture is starting to
emerge:
On the one
hand, there is an articulate candidate who is passionate about public safety.
In the words of former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani from his speech at DMD New York
in June 2002 when he was asked by an audience member how he got crime under
control, he replied the city set up the right tracking metrics and benchmarks.
Giuliani said, "If you can't measure it, you can't manage it; and you
can't manage it if you are not measuring it." Taking a page
out of Rudy’s playbook, she has metrics at her command, including “peak
hours” and profiles of perpetrators, highlighting areas for law enforcement
agents to focus their efforts on.
On the other
hand, there is a candidate who talks up her endorsement by an unidentified
South Orange County Deputy Sheriff. We understand these to be code words
for “The Union”.
Then there is
the candidate using the Orange County Register’s questionable reporting as
sales collateral, and filing lawsuits to shut down critics.
Then there is
the issue of accessibility: One candidate is readily accessible and
willing to respond to questions. On the other hand, there is a candidate
who has failed to respond to various invitations.
One for fiscal
responsibility. One for subsidizing organizations.
