Viral Marketing

One of the questions we are often asked is, what is viral marketingViral marketing sometimes refers to Internet-based stealth marketing campaigns. The term viral advertising refers to the idea that people will pass on and share interesting and entertaining content.  One of the most widely recognized viral marketing campaigns (beside the pioneer HotMail.com), is Burger Kings' Subservient Chicken, launched during Q12005 and within one week, the website recorded 20 million hits.

Other examples of vial marketing include GAP's WatchMeChange.com - no longer available, perhaps because the campaign, although successful, did not contribute and in fact, may have detracted from brand equity.

More recently, the viral marketing strategy being used by Heavy.com has gotten the  attention of WSJ columnists and reportedly got some 5 million visitors within a short period of time.

Other recent attempts at the 2Is/viral marketing include:

  • GAP's™: http://www.watchmechange.com/ - critical charge that this approach detracts from the brand.
  • Levi Jean Finder http://www.us.levi.com/fal05a/levi/jeanfinder/l_jf_app.jsp?bmUID=1138045809789
  • Mitsubishi:  Thrill Ride Challenge http://www.mitsubishicars.com/06eclipse/

Food For The Poor

Founded in 1982, Food For the Poor is an interdenominational Christian ministry working to end the suffering of the poor in the Caribbean and Latin America.

Since its inception they have shipped more than 35,000 tractor-trailer loads of food, medicine, educational supplies and other items to brothers and sisters in need.

FFP have built more than 33,000 housing units for families desperately needing shelter and have supported orphanages and education for children.

FFTP serves the poorest of the poor in 16 nations throughout the Caribbean and Latin America.  They work directly with local clergy, missionaries and other church-based social programs of various denominations.  They provide them with  what is needed, where is needed and the most efficient and cost-effective way possible.

In December 2005, Forbes magazine awarded FFTP a 96% fundraising efficiency rating - more than 96% of all donations received in 2005 went directly to programs to serve the poor.

DonorsChoose

DonorsChooseSM is a simple way to provide students in need with resources that our public schools often lack. At this not-for-profit web site, teachers submit project proposals for materials or experiences their students need to learn. These ideas become classroom reality when concerned individuals, whom we call Citizen Philanthropists, choose projects to fund.

Proposals range from "Magical Math Centers" ($200) to "Big Book Bonanza" ($320), to "Cooking Across the Curriculum" ($1,100). Any individual can search such proposals by areas of interest, learn about classroom needs, and choose to fund the project(s) they find most compelling. In completing a project, donors receive a feedback package of student photos and thank-you notes, a teacher impact letter, and an expenditure report showing that their tax-deductible gift was spent as directed.
